With the globe shrinking, thanks to the new age revolution of the internet and with companies in demand of professionals worldwide, companies have started to realize the importance of doing an international background check on a candidate who wishes to join them.

Imagine you working in a country like Indonesia and you get a call from one of the well-known companies in the USA. Obviously, you would jump at the opportunity. If you are an employer looking to hire the right candidate, you must make sure you do an International Background check, especially when you are looking to hire people from across the seas.

Keep a simple fact in mind. If you are hiring a person from abroad who does not have a good background in his native country, what is the guarantee that he will be of good to you in your company. Even if you agree that change of country and laws may force a person to reconsider the way he has been living, you still need an International Background check. Imagine you are hiring a good candidate from another country and you realize your entire effort has gone waste if the candidate is a 'wanted' criminal in his country. This has two distinct risks for the company:

  • Your company would be into an extradition tangle with the native country of the person if he has ever been convicted of a serious crime. I am sure that any company would love to focus its energies and not on legal hassles.

  • Just in case, the employee joins you and his 'past takes him over', you may see a repeat of all what the employee did when he resided in his native country. You could almost see that in the crimes he commits in both places would be almost in a pattern. And I am sure you want to avoid that.

Many 3rd party companies specialize in doing international background checks. All that the employer needs to tell the 3rd party company is the native country of the person. The 3rd party would conduct a thorough check on the employee by looking up different databases of the native country of the employee. With legal, financial and criminal aspects covered, these international checks give you information which could be very vital to you in your decision-making process to hire an employee.

Please note that there a lot of countries who have their own state-wide Information Disclosure Laws. These laws will ensure that not all the information about an employee is given out which makes international background checks look slightly undermined in importance.

Nevertheless, it is great tool to verify the records of an employee on a global basis.
