Why Is An Employer Background Check So Important In Effective Recruiting?

If you thought that employer background checks are conducted by the employer on the employee who wishes to join them, then you are wrong. An employer background check has a good analogy with an employee background check, the only difference being that in case of employer background check it is the candidate who wishes to join a company taking a glance at the ratings of the company. This gives the candidate a good picture about the company which he desires to join.

You have a first idea of the "working climate" of the company when you see it advertising for job vacancies. Most employers nowadays prefer adding a one-liner about their values and their work conditions (infrastructure, facilities etc). You get a second idea of the company's "working climate" in your interview sessions.

Apart from these two, if you conduct an independent background check yourself on the employer, you will be greatly benefited. How to do this is not rocket science?

  1. You can start by meeting your friends who are already working for the company. In all possibilities, they would give you an accurate picture of the company and its resources.
  2. You can do an employer background check to the next level by visiting some of the resources which are available on the internet. These resources provide a detailed review of most of the employers. The reviews are done by the employees who are working and who have worked in the company at some point of time. Most of the online resources provide an unbiased, true picture of the "working health" of the company.
  3. You can speak to companies/agencies who offer these services directly. Since they offer this service professionally, they will charge you a small fee in lieu. But if you wish to work for a company that you want to work for, this small fee is a happy exchange for you.

Checks need not be only done by the employer on the employee. To keep the feedback cycle going at all times, an employee can do an employer background check which can be equally if not more important than the employee background check.

Just be careful to trust reliable sources, as you may find some of these reviews may start getting biased due to personal prejudice of the employee against the employer. Otherwise, it is a pretty safe method to determine how good the company is.
