Criminal Background Check: Check To See If Your Prospective Employee Has A Criminal History

With more and more emphasis on data security and damages due to identity thefts, the importance of doing a criminal background check on your employees is gaining by the day. Doing a criminal background check on your prospective employee will mean that you have taken your first step to ensure you have a low risk organization.

Criminal background checks include investigation into the following:

  • Criminal History - An employee is checked for his criminal records by access to local and national police force database. The employee's records are checked for any assault cases and all other criminal records.

  • Felony - If an employee has been charge of causing destruction to a property's value either by means of damage caused or by means of stealing, theft, robbery, he can be accused of felony. He may yet not be convicted of the crime, but a felony accusation is good enough to land him in the jail for more than a year and he may rule out a good job in his career.

  • Misbehavior - Often classified as Misdemeanor. The laws for Misdemeanor cases are slightly variable state-state in the USA. Example, if purposeful damage is inflicted on a property in Arizona where the damage value is assessed under $250, the person who inflicted the damage will be charged with Misdemeanor.

  • Sex offence - An employee is checked for his history of involvement in sex offence cases. He is checked for any molestation, gender assaults done by him actively in the past.

A person who is charged with misdemeanor may still clear the criminal background check when it comes to working for armed forces or public law enforcing agencies. A person who is charged with felony may automatically get disqualified from working with the armed forces. This is really not a ground rule. There may be many job vacancies which require you to have a clear criminal history - which means you cannot have any crimes of any sort registered against you. In such cases, you being accused of misdemeanor or felony does not matter. You will eventually fail the criminal background check. Cases of misdemeanor or felony are impacted by how old the accused is. In most cases, leniency would be observed when it comes to a misdemeanor case. Example, if a person is accused of misdemeanor at the age of 16, he may still qualify for a job at the age of 23, provided he could explain the misdemeanor charges.

An organization would want to do a criminal background check on an employee to ensure that the employee does not create disturbances within the organization.
